The real cost
The subscription is the smallest line
| Cost | What it is | Recoverable? |
|---|---|---|
| $179/month | The subscription. Known in advance, cancellable monthly. | Capped and predictable |
| Your premium | What you pay for each contract. Options can expire completely worthless, and routinely do. | No — total loss is an ordinary outcome |
| Contract fees and spreads | Per-contract commissions plus the bid-ask spread, which widens on the less liquid strikes. | No, and it compounds with activity |
| Time decay | Short-dated contracts lose value every day the underlying does nothing. You pay this simply for being early. | No |
| Your attention | Real-time alerts only pay if you are there. The ones you miss cost nothing and earn nothing. | No |
Before anything else. An option can expire completely worthless — a total loss of what you paid, and an ordinary outcome rather than a freak one. Short-dated contracts bleed value through time alone. Most brokers require approval before you can trade options at all. Size every position so that it going to zero changes nothing about your month.
